Yemen-Hadhramout-Beside Warsama Mousque
Within the walls of the kindergarten, Rania Ahmed found her refuge and joy. Her work as a service worker in the kindergarten was more than just a job; it was a message she was proud of. She enjoyed seeing smiles on the faces of young children. However, when she faced an unexpected challenge, she realized that life is full of surprises, and that change is an integral part of it. With her strong faith and love for life and her family, she decided to face her challenge with all her strength and determination. In Ramadan of the year (2020 AD), the story began with a small pimple in her breast, which did not seem dangerous at first, but her sister's insistence and awareness of the importance of early detection prompted her to undergo medical examinations. The psychological shock was great when the doctor told her husband that she had cancer. She talks about this moment and says: "My husband told me, on the authority of the doctor, that I had a malignant tumor. I was not understanding and did not understand what he was saying, as if the world had turned upside down and as if I would lose everything I loved." Rania's confrontation with the disease was difficult. Chemotherapy was a recurring nightmare for her, as she feared its painful and exhausting side effects. Her fear of the surgery, especially in light of the health conditions in Yemen, increased her suffering. But thanks to God and the support of the volunteers of the Hadramout Foundation for Cancer Control, Rania found the hope and psychological support she needed to continue on her path. Their constant visits and words of encouragement were fuel that provided her with positive energy, reminding her that she was not alone in this battle. Rania’s suffering was not limited to the health aspect only, but extended to include all aspects of her life. The disease left its mark on her role as a mother, wife and working woman. She found it difficult to do the simplest household tasks, and felt lonely and helpless. However, thanks to the support of her family and husband, she was able to overcome this difficult stage, and as Rania says about it: “During this period, I felt lonely and had general weakness in my body and my hair was falling out, but with the support of the foundation’s volunteers, my family and my husband, I was able to overcome that.” She says about her husband: "My husband was my first supporter and backer. He was the one who cooked for me and my children and did the housework. He was always keen to provide me with healthy food despite his difficult economic situation." After months of suffering and challenge, signs of recovery began to appear on Rania. She found in prayer, seeking forgiveness and supplication her refuge and a reason for her cohesion. With every prostration, she would implore God to heal and cure her, and her firm faith in God Almighty was the motivation that pushed her forward. With every improvement in her health, she gradually returned to her daily life, where she found pleasure and psychological comfort in working in the kindergarten and she triumphed over the malignant disease. Rania realized the importance of making use of time and developing herself after she regained her health, thanks to God. She began learning handicrafts such as making accessories and resin, and discovered a new passion. She decided to share this talent with her colleague, and together they opened a store called (Sahala Accessories and Resin Store) and chose the name Sahala as part of giving back to the most prominent volunteers of the foundation who supported her during her illness - Sahala Bahidra - this project was not just an additional source of income, but a way to express herself and unleash her creativity. She also did not forget her social duty, as she joined the Volunteers Association of the Hadramout Foundation for Cancer Control, where she helps other patients and provides them with psychological and moral support whenever she can. Rania says: "Cancer was a difficult test, but I succeeded in passing it thanks to God and the support of my loved ones. I learned that life is short, and that we must enjoy every moment of it. And that illness does not mean the end of life, but rather a new beginning, so do not despair with life, just hold on to the rope of God and He will make everything difficult easy for you." Regarding her outlook on life after experiencing illness, she adheres to the words of God Almighty: (And perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And God knows, while you do not know), stressing that illness did not change her outlook on life, but rather increased her belief that all of God’s destinies are good.”
Rania did not just overcome her illness, but turned her experience into a source of inspiration for others. Through her small project - Sahala Accessories and Resin Store - and her volunteer work, she proved that suffering can be the beginning of a new journey full of creativity and giving. Her story calls on us all to be a source of light and hope for those around us.
We should not forget that the support of family, friends, and the community played a major role in Rania’s recovery. Her story reminds us of the importance of solidarity and cooperation, and that we all need each other in facing life’s challenges. Let us all be like Rania, extending a helping hand to those who He needs it.
