The Director General of Brom Mefa'a District, Dr. Khaled Hassan Al-Juhi, inaugurated this morning, along with Dr. Omar Ali Bajbar, Director of the Organizations Department and World Bank Coordinator at the Public Health and Population Office in the governorate, and Dr. Salem Ahmed Barmil, Director of the Health Office in the district, the awareness camp and early detection clinic for breast cancer in Brom Mefa'a District.
The camp is implemented by the Hadhramaut Foundation for Cancer Control (Amal) in coordination with the Brom Youth Volunteer Forum and the Rafiqa Volunteer Team.
The camp aims to raise awareness among the people of the district about cancer, its causes and symptoms, how to be safe from it, and to learn the methods of early detection.
The camp program included setting up a clinic for early detection of breast cancer and examining women at the Brom Health Center, during which a group of women were examined by a specialist doctor to find out if any of them were suffering from any pain or recurring injury in some sensitive areas.
The awareness camp included holding health awareness lectures for school and high school students, numbering about (164) students, to educate them about the causes of cancer and its side effects in the lives of young people, and reviewing the most prominent factors causing it, such as smoking, tobacco and environmental pollutants, in addition to focusing on the importance of proper nutrition that helps the body resist various pests.
Health awareness lectures were also held for high school students, numbering about (128) students, to explain the importance of periodic examination for breast cancer in order to avoid the risk of contracting it early, God forbid, and to train them on the method of self-examination and direct them to the clinics of the Hadramout Foundation for Cancer Control in the event of any suspected case or symptoms of the disease.
The awareness aspect of the camp also included hanging awareness posters on the causes and risks of cancer and distributing awareness brochures aimed at explaining what was given to male and female students during the awareness process.
For their part, the leadership of the local authority and the people of the directorate thanked the Hadramout Foundation for Cancer Control for its great efforts in holding this camp and educating people about the dangers of cancer and how to prevent it.
The Foundation’s Executive Director, Dr. Walid Al-Batati, welcomed partnerships with voluntary initiatives and forums and civil society organizations interested in medical camps and mobile clinics, so that through these programs they can deliver their services to many areas, especially those outside their scope of work.
